*new chemical gdns. portfolio site

I am very happy to announce my new portfolio site.  To view, please  click here

I have used Carbonmade as I was impressed by the minimal interface and the easiness in setting it all up.  The basic package is free to use and allows a total of five sections (or ‘projects’ as they call them) and a total of 35 images.  This is just right for my needs right now. Of course, if your needs are greater, a subscription service kicks in.  Still, I found it all to be very reasonable.

When you’re flicking through, make sure you click on the section titles to gain some information about the pieces, as shown below:

I have been in need of a decent portfolio environment for quite some time.  Flickr doesn’t really cut it, and is more of a social networking environment than a serious place to showcase anything.  Also, the blog environment doesn’t seem to work too well either.  I think in order for any kind of artwork/photography to be appreciated, it needs minimum clutter so the eye can stay focussed on what it is supposed to be looking at.

Thanks very much for looking.  If anyone has any comments or views on the portfolio, I would love to hear them!

Take care & thanks!

Chris 🙂

*toward the end

Today, I’m crossing the bridge between the auditory, the visual and definitely the sensual side of ourselves.  Just one simple question: If you could come back in the next life as a moment in a song, what would it be?

4-15 la femme d'argent

1-38 american dream

1-50 waiting in vain

2-04 music box

Back soon.

*planets, stars & mystical gardens..

Some new works.  I’ve been streamlining my workflow, making some conscious decisions regarding my creative process.  But don’t worry, I am not going to bore you with the details.  The following pieces have been born from these new ways of working, so let’s cut to the juice..

I like the idea of fallen leaves forming the basis for a new astrological system.  I thought of the wise folks from many civilisations ago looking up to the stars and begin to join the dots, allowing all manner of cleverness to ensue.

Here’s a closer view as I’m aware the lines are very fine at this screen resolution.  You can view larger here if you like.   As you can see, the final plot-line meanders slightly and goes off in search for further secrets, something beyond the stars..

(In keeping in with the idea of plotting new star systems from fallen leaves)

They never knew, these two.

Until next time…

*suddenly hidden..

After the build up and subsequent excitement of my first public exhibition last week, I am now back in familiar waters (or unfamiliar waters?  It remains to be seen).   In many ways it is a relief but, on the other side of things, It felt wonderful to be part of something again.  The exhibition was a success in many ways, and I have a photo-set on flickr which documents the opening day.  I won’t harp on about it too much here, for I feel it is time to move forward now.  Instead, I shall leave you with three photographs from the last week…

there is an influence

I find my concerns with the spirituality of living, the balance between dark and light becoming stronger and more pronounced in my work..  It’s a difficult for me to describe that in any way whatsoever, so I won’t.  This is probably why I choose photography and art over theology and book writing..

wih my heartbeat

I am interested in the moment, and of secret channels that sometimes glare at us from hidden places.   I like the title in the photograph above.  I’m sure the English is terrible, but I didn’t want to word it any other way.  We are lonely pilots in life, whether we are with or without others.  The steady rhythm of our heart tells us all we need to know, where to go now, what is next.  Life is instinctual, we mustn’t let anyone convince us otherwise.  The beauty is in the moment, and the risks we sometimes have to make to be where we want to be.  An opportune encounter in a cathartic crowd is not so dissimilar to a lonely moment at the entrance of a tiny forest.

she waited

There is romance here; agreements across time and space, the way the heart pauses from time to time as if waiting for a radio transmission from the ether.  Either that or I’m in the undergrowth seeing lines from one thing to another.  Probably the latter… But most probably the former… maybe… !

On another subject entirely, I just have to share this fantastic (unofficial) video to Radiohead’s ‘all I need’.  Some bright spark has used footage from the 1996 French film “Microcosmos” and put it together to the music of this beautiful and haunting song.

all i need

I cannot even begin to express how well they go together!

Finally, before I go, I just wanted to say a big thank-you to everyone connected with the Homegrown exhibition – the organisers, the artists and all of the lovely people I had a chance to talk to about the things that matter… You all made it a fantastic experience.

Limited edition hand printed flyer giveaway!

Those who have been following my endeavors recently will know that I’ve been massively busy preparing for my first photography exhibition which is due to begin tomorrow (!!!). Part of the preparations have been to design and screen-print a load of flyers for visitors to take away with them. Have a look here for the finished article.

On top of this, I covertly created some very limited edition florescent green and red flyers to giveaway to friends, supporters and potential groupies ;). There are only 12 of these in existence, each one signed and numbered on the back. Due to the hand crafted nature of screen printing, they are all beautifully unique as a result.

If you would like an opportunity to win one of these along with a 15% discount at my new on-line shop, simply:

1. go to the feedback form on my blog here
2. enter your name and email address*
2. add a comment beginning with the words, “give me one!”
4. wait until Friday 17th July where I shall announce the winners

thankyou x

*rest assured, information you give is treated in absolute confidentiality
